Shoulder Pain: Causes, Treatments & Diagnosis

Shoulder Pain: Causes, Treatments, and Diagnosis

The shoulder joint is one of the most commonly dislocated joints in the entire body. The shoulder joint is supported by surrounding tendons, muscles, and ligaments that are susceptible to injury. Forward and backward movement in the shoulder is possible because of its versatility in various motions. This continuous movement of arms in any direction can cause too much friction, thus subjecting your shoulder joint to pain. Don't let shoulder pain disrupt your daily life. Our team at Papa Chiropractic and Physical Therapy is ready to help you live a pain-free life through the use of our professional chiropractic care.

Causes of Shoulder Pain

Dislocation of a shoulder happens when the humeral head is disconnected from its socket in the glenoid fossa forcefully. These dislocations can occur in three ways:

  • Anterior dislocation: This occurs when the humeral head has been moved in front of the joint in a vulnerable position. This injury can happen when hitting a volleyball.
  • Posterior dislocation: This occurs when the humeral head has been moved back towards the shoulder brain.
  • Inferior dislocation: This occurs below the joint. The humeral head gets stuck between the ribs.

Diagnosing Shoulder Pain

There are a few ways we can pinpoint the cause of your pain. We will perform a physical exam to check for tenderness and swelling. Our team will also assess your range of motion and check your joint stability. Our chiropractors will order an x-ray of your shoulder to determine if you have a fracture. An MRI will give us a clear picture of your soft tissue to determine if this is the source of your pain.

How Chiropractic Care Can Help

Sometimes your shoulder can move out of alignment resulting in muscle spasms, inflammation, and pain. This misalignment of your shoulder can be restored by our team through the use of chiropractic adjustments to regain its normal alignment. Our chiropractors may also use implements such as a speeder board, drop table piece, and reflex-type hammer tool to mitigate shoulder pain. If you are experiencing shoulder pain, schedule an appointment with Papa Chiropractic and Physical Therapy. Our Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, and Port St Lucie chiropractors can create a treatment plan to relieve your pain and improve your range of motion.
