Following a car accident, it’s not uncommon to suffer a shoulder injury. Since your shoulders are connected to your neck and back, they are susceptible to the impact of minor and severe jolts of both minor fender benders and severe crashes. Regrettably, unlike visible cuts and bruises, diagnosing a shoulder injury is more difficult. However, our chiropractors are trained to spot and treat auto injuries, including hidden ones like shoulder injuries.

Have you suffered a shoulder injury? Schedule an appointment with us at Papa Chiropractic in Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, and Port St. Lucie, FL, for treatment. Our chiropractic care can help treat your shoulder injury from an auto accident.

Symptoms of Shoulder Pain

If you experience the below symptoms, you could have shoulder pain:

  • Bruising
  • Tenderness
  • Shooting pain
  • Tingling/numbness
  • Reduced range of motion
  • Stiffness
  • Weakness

When you seek chiropractic treatment for shoulder pain, the first step is to find the cause of the pain. This involves taking your medical history, conducting a physical assessment, and using X-rays and other diagnostic tools to diagnose your shoulder pain.

Causes of Shoulder Pain After an Accident

Most often, shoulder pain after an accident is because of minor bruising and inflammation. However, sometimes shoulder pain can be severe when it’s related to the shoulder blade, joints, bones, and muscles. Common causes of shoulder pain after an accident include:

  • Whiplash: This injury occurs when the head snaps back and forth, extending the neck’s ligaments and tendons beyond their range of motion. Whiplash causes headaches and neck pain, but pain may radiate to the shoulders.
  • Rotator cuff tear: The rotator cuff is a group of muscles connecting the arm bone (humerus) to the shoulder blade. When your rotator cuff is torn, you experience pain, stiffness, and a crackling sensation when moving your arms.
  • Soft tissue injuries: Your shoulder’s soft tissues are likely to be injured in a car accident. The ligaments, muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and other tissues around the shoulder may be damaged, causing shoulder pain, swelling, stiffness, and weakness.
  • Dislocation: Awkward twisting of the arm during an accident may force the arm to separate from the shoulder joint. Of course, this causes shoulder pain and makes your arm lose mobility.

How Our Chiropractor Treats Shoulder Injuries

Our chiropractor treats your shoulder using natural remedies. Manipulation of the shoulder aligns the shoulder joints, increasing the range of motion. Spinal adjustment treats pain that radiates from the back to the shoulders.
