About Tennis Elbow

Also known by its medical name, lateral epicondylitis, tennis elbow is a condition that causes pain at the knob on the outside of your elbow. Tennis elbow is often the result of inflammation or breakdown of a specific tendon, which is a tough type of tissue that connects the muscle to bone to make joints move.

Specifically, tennis elbow affects the muscle known as extensor carpi radialis brevis, which is the muscle in your forearm that bends and straightens your wrist.

Pain associated with tennis elbow usually starts at your elbow. Tennis elbow is a progressive condition, which means the pain gets worse over time. You might notice the pain when you try to open a door, squeeze a bottle or grip something in your hand.
