Herniated discs are a common cause of back and neck pain, often leading to symptoms such as stiffness, radiating pain, numbness, or tingling in the arms or legs. At Papa Chiropractic and Physical Therapy, we help patients better understand their treatment options so they can make informed decisions about their care. With three locations in Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, and Port St. Lucie, FL, we offer comprehensive, non-surgical solutions for spine-related conditions. One non-surgical option frequently recommended is spinal decompression, a therapy designed to relieve pressure on the spine and support the body’s natural healing process.
A herniated disc occurs when the soft, gel-like center of a spinal disc pushes through its tougher outer layer. This can put pressure on nearby nerves, leading to pain and reduced mobility. Herniated discs may develop from repetitive strain, improper lifting, poor posture, or age-related wear and tear. While surgery is sometimes necessary, many patients benefit from conservative treatments aimed at reducing pressure and inflammation.
Spinal decompression is a specialized form of traction therapy that gently stretches the spine using controlled movements. This stretching creates negative pressure within the disc, which may help draw bulging or herniated material back into place. By reducing pressure on the affected disc and surrounding nerves, spinal decompression can help relieve pain and improve function over time.
By relieving spinal compression, spinal decompression improves circulation to the affected area. Better blood flow allows oxygen, water, and nutrients to reach injured discs, supporting tissue repair and healing. Reduced pressure also helps calm irritated nerves, which can lessen pain and discomfort. For many patients, this leads to improved mobility and a gradual return to normal activities.
Spinal decompression may be helpful for individuals experiencing pain from herniated discs, bulging discs, sciatica, or chronic back and neck conditions. When you visit a chiropractor near you, they will review your symptoms, medical history, and imaging studies to determine whether spinal decompression is appropriate. Treatment plans are customized to address each patient’s specific needs and comfort level.
At Papa Chiropractic and Physical Therapy, we provide spinal decompression as part of a comprehensive approach to care. Serving patients throughout Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, and Port St. Lucie, FL, our team focuses on reducing pain, restoring movement, and helping patients return to daily life safely. If you are searching for spinal decompression or a chiropractor near you, contact Papa Chiropractic and Physical Therapy at one of our three locations to learn how non-surgical care may help support your recovery.
