Text neck is one of the downsides of digital device overuse at home or in the workplace. Chiropractic care from Papa Chiropractic and Physical Therapy in Jupiter can help alleviate the pain and discomfort of text neck, without resorting to pain management drugs. Here’s what you should know about text neck causes and treatments.

What is text neck? How did I develop this condition?

Text neck is neck pain caused by muscle tension from constantly looking down on your digital devices. If your job requires that you look down for extended periods of time, you may develop this condition. People who develop text neck are often guilty of poor posture, which further aggravates neck, shoulder and back pain.

How can I prevent text neck?

Stand up straight when using mobile devices or tablets to improve your posture. Take frequent breaks in between digital device use to relax your neck. When using devices in the office, use a holder and put your devices at eye level when sitting to keep your neck from slumping forward. Ergonomic changes in the workplace can reduce the risk of developing this condition.

How can I alleviate text neck pain and discomfort?

Stretching exercises can help alleviate muscle tension and reduce pain. Roll your head forward and back and then from side to side. Another exercise that can alleviate neck pain is standing with your arms at your sides and rotating hands back and forth. If your fingers are stiff from texting, hand stretches will help loosen them up.

How can a Jupiter chiropractor help with text neck pain?

Chiropractic adjustments to your neck and back can alleviate muscle tension to reduce text neck pain. Adjustments also help reduce inflammation, improve flexibility and restore range of motion in your neck and spine. If you have poor posture, we’ll recommend exercises that can help change this habit to avoid problems with neck and back pain in the future.
